Gender Identity and Expression For Parents
In August 2017 the Ontario Hockey Federation in conjunction with the OMHA reached out to all associations requesting that we all reach out to our membership focusing on the inclusiveness and respect of all individuals.
This message was based on a series of events that transpired in prior months based on an incident involving gender identification and diversity. While gender diversity and expression is an area of concern, the need to respect other aspects of society is equally as important.
Creating a culture and environment based on respect and inclusiveness is everyone’s responsibility not just that of the MMHA. We must all work together to create and build out this culture. Parents and players should have an environment to come forward and openly discuss and express concerns and needs as they arise.
The OHF and OMHA have also provided the association with brief video in relation to this topic. The viewing of this video is optional but we are asking all families and members of the association to review the video given the sensitivity.
