Midland Local League Graffiti Art Bantam 2 Capture the International Silver Stick in Pelham 2016-2017
International Silver Stick in Pelham 2016-2017

The Midland Graffiti Art Bantam Local League 2 Centennials won the Silver Stick Local League Regionals in Haliburton on the weekend of Dec. 10. The team then moved on to play in the International Silver Stick Tournament in Pelham from Jan. 5-8.

At the International Silver Stick Tournament in Pelham the Midland team wasted no time getting into the win column in 2017, steam rolling the Petrolia Oilers with an 11-4 win.  This helped them to get rid of their International Silver Stick jitters with win number one under their belt. In the second game of the series the Midland Centennials sent the BCH Ice Dogs, representing Bayfield, Clinton, Hensall Region in Huron County, back to their dog house with an 11-0 thrashing.  The Cents offense demonstrated high-end skill and put forth a good effort each and every shift with excellent hockey sense and an uncanny ability to anticipate the play.  The outstanding offence led by Jonas Glidden, Aidan Quesnelle, Wyatt Neal, Teghan Thayer- Hewson, Luca DeCola, Riley Belsey, Zach Marion and Joseph Gilbert proved to be too much for the Ice Dogs defense demonstrating that they had more bark than bite!

These skills continued on in the third game, where the Centennials took a bite out of the Huskies notching a 5-0 conquest.   In game four, the Midland Centennials faced their strongest opponents and host team the Pelham Panthers.  Wyatt Neal broke the ice half way through the first period scoring, which was quickly responded to by the Panthers that tied up the game.  Luca DeCola responded with two quick goals and Jonas Glidden sealed the deal with a goal late in the third period for a 4 to 2 victory.  In the championship game the Centennials counted on their rugged defensemen with lots of ability.  They were able to advance the puck consistently and were monsters in the corners winning most battles.  The defensive team were led by Travis Johnson, Christian Browne, Connor Bullock and Cole Ingram for a solid three to one victory over the New Hamburg Huskies and catapulted the team to International Silver Stick success.
The win capped a great weekend for the team as they displayed a strong mix of scoring and defense. The Centennials reached the final via a 5-0 record with a combined goal total of 34 goals for and only 9 against led by our outstanding net minders of Marshall Lathigee and Dre Ring.
